The War Memorial
One of the first projects undertaken by the Group, was to have both the stonework and the bronze panels of the War Memorial on Railway Road Adlington cleaned. This is the War Memorial for Adlington, Anderton, Heath Charnock and Rivington.
It was realised that the names of several men who gave their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts had been omitted from the War Memorial. The Group applied for, and was successful in obtaining, grants from ‘Awards for All’ and O2, it’s your community’ to pay for two additional bronze panels and for the production of a booklet about the War Memorial and the district in World War II which was distributed to every household in the area.
Additional work has been undertaken to improve the surroundings of the War Memorial.
